There’s nothing quite like finding the right book, and Carrie Deming has a knack for finding exactly the one you’re looking for.

Carrie opened The Dog Eared Book in Palmyra, New York, in January 2015 after spending 15 years working at her local library. Eleven years later, she’s brought her beloved bookshop to downtown Edenton, where she’s still selling books with her husband Nick, her mom Jane, and her dog Cody!

Carrie and her husband Nick fell in love with Edenton the moment they discovered our “picture-perfect downtown,” loving that it’s walkable, full of foot traffic, supported by a strong local community, and surrounded by shops, restaurants, events, and plenty of reasons to spend the day downtown.

The Dog Eared Book offers a beautifully curated selection of new and used books, children’s books, baby gifts, games, puzzles, journals, and even Dog Eared coffee mugs. Carrie’s personal favorites are fantasy and historical fiction, but there’s something here for every reader.

And if you follow The Dog Eared Book online, you already know Carrie’s love of books extends far beyond the shop. She has built a wonderful online following through her book reviews and recommendations, helping people find their next great read. Carrie is also a perfect example of why so many online shoppers are still shopping small. There’s a real person on the other end of that email or phone call who can help you choose a book, order a book, ship a book, or make a return. No AI necessary.
Carrie says she doesn’t have many superpowers, but recommending exactly the right book is one of them. Follow along at The Dog Eared Book or stop by in person to find your next read!
The Dog Eared Book is located at 419 South Broad Street and is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM.
