Captain Mark Thesier steering The Libertea tour boat

Downtown Spotlight: Edenton Bay Cruises!

For over 12 years, Mark and Theresa Thesier have welcomed visitors aboard The Libertea, a six-passenger tour boat that has become a beloved part of Edenton’s waterfront. From the very beginning, Edenton has embraced them as our own, and in return, the Theisers have shared countless hours of laughter, storytelling, and unforgettable views of the bay.

Unlike larger boats, The Libertea runs on a quiet electric motor, so you can enjoy laid-back conversation without fumes, noise, or seasickness (something Captain Mark is proud to say has never happened on his watch!). He doesn’t even use a microphone—just good humor and a knack for telling stories. As he likes to say, “When you’re on a trolley tour, you get history. When you’re on my boat, you get a story—and I don’t always let the facts get in the way of the truth.”

Captain Mark keeps The Libertea in pristine condition, inspected yearly by the U.S. Coast Guard, and ready for the 1,500 passengers who cruise with him each year. It’s this dedication that earned Mark and Theresa recognition as Edenton’s Main Street Champions in 2019.

Cruises run Thursday through Monday (weather permitting) at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, and 1:30. You’ll find The Libertea docked right at the bottom of South Broad Street.
